No — eligible first home buyers in Queensland pay no transfer duty on homes valued up to $500,000 and vacant land up to $250,000. A partial concession applies for homes between $500,001 and $550,000. You must move in within 1 year and live there for at least 1 year.

Is stamp duty called transfer duty in QLD?+

Yes — Queensland refers to stamp duty as 'transfer duty.' The amount is the same as other states call stamp duty; it's just the official Queensland name for the tax on property transfers.

What are the QLD foreign buyer transfer duty surcharges?+

Foreign buyers in Queensland pay an additional 8% foreign acquirer duty on top of standard transfer duty. This applies to residential property purchases by foreign individuals and companies. Australian citizens and permanent residents are exempt from this surcharge.

How long do I have to pay QLD transfer duty?+

Transfer duty in QLD must be paid within 30 days of the earlier of settlement or the date you take possession of the property. Your conveyancer will arrange this at settlement. The Office of State Revenue accepts payment by electronic funds transfer.
